I find that we all tell ourselves stories about who we are. The reality is that we aren’t actually the person telling the story, we’re the person listening to it.
This is important to remember because you have to be careful what stories you tell yourself. Sometimes you tell yourself that you can’t or that you are not good enough and your self, the real, listening self, hears this and believes it. Or sometimes we tell ourselves excuses for why we are failing at something and we believe the excuses, even if they’re not true.
It’s important that we distinguish between who we tell ourselves we are and who we really are. I always find my real self on hard physical days, the days where the voice says I can’t, but I do. The days where the voice says I can’t go any farther, but then I make it another step, and another. The days when the voice says I can’t reach any higher, but then I reach another inch, and another, and another.
I hope you find your truth in inches. And inch by inch I hope one day you find that all of the stories you tell yourself are true.
