What I find In perfect stillness

First it was caving, then it was intro to outdoor rock climbing, then it was camping, then it was climbing, then it was hiking, and now we’re at week 6. Let’s go.

I have no adventures planned for this weekend and it’s making my skin crawl. That’s not to say I have nothing to do, it’s just the quiet of my plans makes my feet itch. I have a wedding on Friday, a Halloween Party on Saturday, some work to do. I’ve been thinking of Barbara Kingsolver’s quote in The Poisonwood Bible:

“My little beast, my eyes, my favorite stolen egg. Listen. To live is to be marked. To live is to change, to acquire the words of a story, and that is the only celebration we mortals really know. In perfect stillness, frankly, I’ve only found sorrow.”

In perfect stillness, I find only sorrow.
