Time For Change

This week we saw it all. Summer weather turned to 3 inches of snow which immediately morphed into Spring. And then suddenly it was Friday and I got my COVID-19 vaccine. In some ways this feels like the first step back toward normalcy. In other ways this feels like summer temperatures… in March… in Upstate NY. You know it won’t last. Not yet.

A year ago it felt like everything had changed and would never be the same. Now, for better or worse, it seems like it might actually just go back to the way it was. I’m not sure what you should hope for out of a global pandemic. I guess I hoped that this experience would make people better. But people are the way they are and this world seems like it’s just going to go on the way it’s been going even though now we all know how easy it will be for some germs to kill us all.

So, with things getting back to normal I thought it was time to get a proper haircut, my first in over a year.

Since Spring was back on Saturday, I took my niece to another horseback riding lesson. Then we went to the playground and we played on the seesaw, we rode down all of the slides, and me and my mom pushed them for a long time on the swings while my vaccine induced migraine got worse and worse. It was too cold to go for ice cream so we got sundae making supplies from WalMart and brought them home to have after lunch.

Tylenol took care of the headache but not the feeling that things are different. That something has changed, and all the normalcy in the world won’t change it back.
