I read somewhere that gratitude is the single most powerful method of increasing happiness. What with that and it being Thanksgiving it seems like an obvious time to talk about gratitude.
I’m grateful for every day of good health I have, for the people in my life, for giving my dog belly rubs, for the insane good fortune of having been born in a time and a place where I have easy access to an overabundance of food and clean water to drink.
I sometimes forget to be grateful for the every day things that I am so lucky to have. Things like running water, multiple pans so that I can stick one in the dishwasher and just use the other one, a laundry machine, a warm home with much more than I need in it.
It is such a sad, hard, scary world and I am so amazingly lucky for all that I have. I don’t know why I got this lucky but I just hope that in the words of Hank and John Green, I can decrease worldsuck.
I’m also incredibly grateful for the big things, for a tough kickboxing class, for spending time with college friends, for taking my nieces rock climbing and for spending Thanksgiving with my family.
