Self care in 6 “easy” steps

The air is poison. Wildfires in Canada are making a smoky haze here. It’s sunny but you can’t see blue skies for the smoke. Spending time outside gives my coughing fits.

For some reason this has gotten me thinking about why it is so hard to do easy things that are good for you? Especially when there are so many things that are out of your control.

I’m talking about drinking water, getting up from your desk, sitting up straight, going to bed on time. There are so many things we know we should be doing for ourselves. So why is it so hard to do them? Why do I always find myself at the end of a work day, dehydrated from not drinking a sip of water, hunched over like a gremlin and half crazy from not blinking for the last 3 hours?

Being a pretty selfish species on the whole, you’d think self care would be easy. But it’s not, it’s strange, all the stupid little things we fail to do for ourselves. So here is my daily to do list:

  1. Drink more water
  2. Go to bed on time
  3. Take a lunch break
  4. Sit up straight
  5. Blink
  6. Take a deep breath

Any tips? This sounds hard.
