An Indian Summer is a period of warm, dry weather that occurs between September and November. A single 80 degree Saturday that occurs one week into October is called a gift. The trouble is that a day that is a gift is certainly not long enough. It was only long enough for breakfast sandwiches with my nieces.

A gorgeous drive out to Hammondsport and back.
Fishing off the smooth new dock into choppy water.

A romp on the playground, and dinner on Waneta Lake.

Then there was movie “night” with my college friends.

And a long walk down the lake road in a windy darkness that felt like a witch’s magic.

I got back just as the spell broke, rain dumped out of the sky and the balmy 75 degree night turned into a chill, rainy 55.
