Life on the road day 8-12: the outer banks

I fell in love with the outer banks when I came for a wedding in 2017.

That time I watched dolphins swim and shooting stars and spent hours walking the beach looking at shells.

This time we had flooding, torrential rain and wind, and it was like a ghost town. No restaurants open, nothing to do. I still loved it.

If you want to do what we did:
Maybe don’t go in February, nothing was open.

We drove down to Rodanthe for the heck of it and it was beautiful, but nothing was open.

We went searching for the Lost Colony of Roanoke, and didn’t find it, but it’s still well worth a visit.

We went to Kitty Hawk because we needed to do laundry and that was the only place we could find an open laundromat. We also figured we would see where the Wright Brothers first flew but didn’t end up paying to go in because being from NY we honestly feel that Glenn Curtiss was the first man to fly and the Wright Brothers stole his glory.
