I didn’t like Myrtle Beach, even in the off-season. I can’t imagine what it would be like if there were crowds. We had a nice lunch at Bubba’s Love Shak and Myrtle Beach State Park (where we stayed) is honestly quite nice and beautiful. I ran from our campsite down to the pier in the early morning and got a coffee from the shop and smelled the ocean. The sand was white, the sky was fluffy with clouds, the sea was capped, the boards of the pier were bleached, and all I could think was that shades of white were remarkable and complex and gorgeous.
My very first National Park was Congaree. It was crowded, the dog had a hard time behaving himself. I just wanted to be happy to be there. A National Park!
Charleston was like a drink of water when you didn’t realize you were thirsty. We stayed in St. James Island Campground and were able to rock climb right at the campground, this is something I hadn’t realized I’d been missing. We visited the Angel Oak and Fort Sumter and just walked and walked the streets of Charleston and daydreamed about growing up there.
