They pay me to walk around here.
I mean, technically they pay me to ask people not to go near the waterfalls or towers of loose rock, but still.
I get very sweaty, my feet often hurt by the end.
But still.
I think a lot while I walk.
Today I saw a doe from a few feet away and I looked into her eyes and her eyes were like looking at the universe through the wrong end of a telescope. The black in them was like the universe looking at you.
I think about the baby geese I’ve been watching all summer. First they were fuzzy little hatchlings, and then awkward adolescents and now I can’t tell them from the adult geese anymore.
I think how long it takes for humans to become adults. I’m still working on it. My knees ache from walking. I hope it’s growing pains and not old age.
