There is a sign in the cabin used as a gathering place for cavers since the 1970s that says:
This is about doing something difficult and not stopping when it becomes not just difficult but cold and difficult or cold and wet and difficult or cold and wet and difficult and dark.
And here we humans are; in the cold, wet, difficult, dark… for fun, I think. I‘m not sure what drives us all to see these hard to reach places but I know it must be part of human DNA to explore, to keep searching, to keep looking, even in the dark. We’ve been doing it as a species for 60,000 years and I’m glad for it.
