Walking in a Winter Wasteland

I don’t know what the songs are talking about. Walking in winter is Never a wonderland. The air stings your nose and eyes, ice forms where your lungs used to be, any exposed skin goes numb and begins to ache, any unexposed skin is muffled in so many layers it’s difficult to move. The whole thing feels like suffocating in a cramped ice chest.

I’m not being melodramatic. Anyone who says they like walking in winter is lying. Don’t even get me started on people who run outside in the winter.

All that said we went for a long walk after our yearly traditional tree murder at Cole’s Turnpike Tree Farm in Whitney Point. I can’t say this was a hike because all of the paths are paved in Dorchester Park, and honestly it’s a place that is bleak even in the summertime. Winter made it feel like we had stepped into an apocalypse movie set.

I will begrudgingly admit that I enjoyed it. But only a little. And with much complaining.
