Sometimes I feel how breakable I am. A wrist turns a little wrong, an ankle does a funny twist, muscles pull, back kinks, sore necks. Nails break, toes get stubbed, hair gets caught in a zipper and gets pulled out. A germ can make you sick and you can’t even see it. 

It’s so easy for our bodies to go awry.

So I like to focus on the moments when everything is right. When I can breathe. When my only focus is the next move, the next exhalation. The next intake of air. 

The moments when I’m not in my body or in my head. I just am. I think that’s what meditation is meant to be when you do it right. Since I can’t quiet myself enough for meditation I’ll have to hold on to the other more fleeting moments.

When you master a drill in kickboxing and your body does it without you. 

When you’re running and you (finally) have a moment where your entire being isn’t trying to talk you into stopping.

When you’re rock climbing and you know what to do and you don’t know how but each moment comes and goes and with it goes gravity. And you’re free.
