I! Am! Halfway! There!
On Friday I hiked Cathedral Rock Fire Tower. 2.33 miles, 259 feet elevation gain.
On Saturday I hiked Tabletop and Phelps. 13.15 miles, 3,855 feet elevation gain.
On Sunday I hiked Wright, Algonquin and Iroquois. 11 miles, 4,386 feet elevation gain.
On Monday I drove back home. 261 miles.
A friend asked “Kaitlyn, what was the hardest part of your hike Sunday?” I said it was walking down, because after all those miles and all that elevation, I was hurting.
The real answer though is the 2 hours I spent walking alone in the pre-dawn dark heading to Wright Peak. My brain played tricks on me. I felt like I was prey. I remembered every scary movie I had ever seen and every scary podcast I had ever heard. When the sun came up, I was so glad not to be in the dark anymore that everything else felt easy by comparison. The things we do for hiking, amiright?
