just to be alive
on this fresh morning
in the broken world.
– Mary Oliver, Invitation
This weekend felt serious. Though my climbing plans fell through and I worked at the climbing gym instead of climbing outside. My parents rented a boat and instead of a nice day on the lake, we got rained on and ended up shivering inside. But you see something on days like these. The days that fail but don’t fail in their beauty, like Mary Oliver said:
It could mean something.
It could mean everything.
It could be what Rilke meant, when he wrote:
You must change your life.
