I started training with Cornell Outdoor Education in order to teach tree climbing. And guys, this stuff is great.

I don’t know if you know this, but there are trees everywhere. You don’t have to drive hours to find them, or sign a waiver to climb them. You don’t need a gym to simulate them. They’re just… everywhere!

The basic principles I learned today are these:

  1. Throw a line. Once you get the line where you want it, don’t lose it.
  2. Pull up a rope and a shield to protect the tree.
  3. Attach the rope to an anchor on the tree with a system to lower people if needed.
  4. Climb the rope.

I feel like a kid again. If you’re ever looking for me, look up.
