In the time before I fall asleep, when I’m still a little bit awake, I sometimes dream about the things I repeated all day. Since I’m not really asleep and not really awake it feels like these things are really happening until I finally go one way or the other, asleep or awake.
Unfortunately this is often a clip of the computer screens I stare at all day and I am repeating in my lucid dreams the work I have been slogging at already in my waking hours.
Last night though, I dreamed I was laying in bed of blueberry bushes and rhododendrons and the wind was blowing over me and the sun was warming me. It felt a bit like vertigo because I knew the cliff edge was nearby and falling away from me and into the open blue sky, but I was safe and warm and resting.
I woke up from this to think that I needed to tell someone about it. I don’t know who I wanted to tell but it felt important to know that I had taken a little bit of the day’s adventure back with me and that the blueberries were here.
I know that is a super weird thought, but I was exhausted from two days climbing in the Shawangunks, and promptly passed out.
If you want to do what I did, please be sure to learn from an experienced guide or teacher and not solely from the internet. Climbing really is dangerous if not done correctly. If you are located in the Southeast corner of New York State then I can recommend Alpine Endeavors, Cornell Outdoor Education, Eastern Mountain Sports and REI as all good sources of information. I know there are a lot more but these are the ones I have personal experience with. Be safe out there.
